The scenario is usually the same: you receive an email stating that your package is being returned to the sender, and if you don’t respond immediately, you’ll lose it. This is a typical psychological trick designed to make you click without thinking.

How Homographic Attacks Work

The latest scam involves text obfuscation known as a homographic attack. Scammers do not write the company name or the body of the email using standard characters. For example, instead of the standard uppercase “P” (known by the code U+0050), they use a “P” that looks virtually identical but has a different code (U+1D5AF). This can also be achieved by replacing a Czech letter with its equivalent in a foreign language.

But while you’re reading normal text, the security filters in your inbox see only a string of codes. This is precisely why this fraudulent email often slips right past the spam filter and reaches you, posing a threat especially to those who aren’t as experienced in the online world.

Keep Your Data Safe

Even though scammers are becoming more and more creative, common sense and caution will help you avoid falling for these schemes in most cases. Here are a few of our tips:

✔️ Check the address
Don’t be fooled by the sender’s name—always carefully check the email address from which the message was sent. At PPL, we send emails either from support@ppl.cz or info@ppl.cz.

✔️ Verify with the source
Our customer service representatives will never ask you to enter passwords via suspicious email links. The best way to track your package is directly in our mojePPL app or on our official website using the package tracking feature

✔️ Trust your judgment
If a message seems suspicious—for example, because it has an unusual text layout or contains phrases like “last chance” or “requires action”—be on your guard and treat such an email with extreme caution. Under no circumstances should you click on any links or enter your personal information on websites that the email’s instructions may direct you to.
