Respecting the place and the rules

Pick-up points in form of boxes have become a common feature of towns and smaller villages. In order to be useful, they must be placed sensitively – with respect for the surrounding area, the residents, our customers, the technical infrastructure and the history of the place. At PPL, we adhere to the principle of “quality over quantity” and take into account all these aspects. Often even going beyond the legislative requirements.

Our policy on responsible placement of PPL Parcelboxes

We follow several principles whenever we decide on the location of a PPL box. We believe that clear rules and an open approach are the basis for good cooperation.

We select sites based on data and analysis

Before selecting a specific location, we analyse the population density, potential occupancy, transport accessibility and the presence of other boxes in the vicinity. We use our own and publicly available location tools that take into account, among other things, municipal boundaries or utility networks.

We cooperate with municipalities

After selecting a suitable location, in most cases we try to approach the city or municipality first, as municipal or city land is usually the best location for installing PPL boxes. When cooperation cannot be established, we approach the local private landowners.

We are actively investigating utilities

Before each installation, we check the presence of all utilities using official online portals. We respect their location and protection zones. If the site cannot be used safely, we apply for an official exemption or look for an alternative.

We respect monuments and cultural values

If the selected site is in a conservation area, we ask the relevant conservation authority for permission. We even offer a box with a subtle grey coating without any significant branding. If the authority does not agree with the placement of the box, we respect this decision.

We don't walk on the edge – we address safety and accessibility

The PPL box must not block pedestrian or vehicular traffic, be located in view of an intersection, or interfere with a barrier-free route. The location must be safe, which ideally includes the possibility of short-term safe parking within 25 m of the box.

We want to be inconspicuous but recognizable

For the design of the boxes, we try to reconcile a few criteria - easy recognition so that customers don't get confused, simple operation and visual elements that help customers find their way around, and as few bold colours as possible. We are phasing out the more prominent advertising elements. The design of the energy-saving PPL boxes is a good example.

In addition to the classic design, we have, for example for conservation areas, a variant of inconspicuous white boxes with light grey elements that do not disturb the surroundings.

We can adapt to our surroundings

We have been installing boxes for 5 years. In the meantime, rules and requirements have evolved and we have been able to adapt to them. A PPL box can be a clever part of a fence, a facade or built into a wall. In this case, we contractually assume the obligation of full restoration of the original condition after any dismantling.

We are talking to towns and cities. And we listen.

We participate in negotiations with cities and municipalities – from Prague to smaller regions. We are open to direct cooperation, we bring concrete documents and years of experience.

We believe we can bring the perspective of an experienced parcel carrier and the voice of the customer to the discussions. Above all, we believe that together we can find a solution that will satisfy cities and municipalities, customers and us as a parcel carrier.

Why can't the Market Code be applied to boxes?

To ensure stability, the PPL Parcelbox will be anchored on a reinforced concrete base plate with a minimum depth of 200mm.

1) Free space of 5m2

• A surface extending at least 200 mm beyond the footprint of the PPL Parcelbox in all directions with a load capacity of 500 kg/m2. (To ensure stability, the Parcelbox will stand on a concrete slab)
• Ground clearance above the surface of at least 280 cm.
• Horizontal, smooth, dry surface

2) Provision of 230V/50 Hz/16A power supply

• Into an IP-protected connection box.

3) Internet connection of at least 4G

The amount of rent will be assessed individually on the basis of a meeting with a sales representative.
