Seeing comes before buying
Generation Z is extremely sensitive to what they see, even before they consider making a purchase. If an online store lacks detailed, high-quality product photos or authentic reviews from other customers, it’s a problem. For young shoppers, this is a much more common reason to immediately leave the site than it is for older generations. They don’t want to buy a pig in a poke; they need to see the product from multiple angles and know how it works in practice.
The power of TikTok and UGC
Traditional advertising doesn't resonate as much with this target audience anymore. Young Czechs are by far the leaders when it comes to shopping directly through platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Content from influencers, celebrities, and—above all—user-generated content (UGC)—that is, content created by the users themselves—has a major influence on their decision-making. Simply put, authenticity sells better than polished studio photos.
Check-out is a very fragile moment
Do you have a great product and marketing strategy, but customers still abandon their purchase at the last step? For Gen Z, this is often due to the complexity of the purchasing process or unsatisfactory delivery options. Young people want flexibility and simplicity. That’s why it’s crucial to offer a wide range of shipping options—whether it’s traditional home delivery or the option of quick pickup at the nearest PPL box or PPL shop on their way home from school or work. If you don’t give them the choice that suits them best, they’ll simply go elsewhere.
Not in stock? The customer leaves
This generation is more accustomed to getting things as quickly as possible—ideally, right away. Is the item out of stock? In 78% of cases, they don’t even look for an alternative on that e-shop and immediately go to a competitor. The solution is simple: provide absolutely clear and accurate information about availability on your website. If you don’t have the item in stock right now, be upfront and give them a clear message about exactly when it will be back in stock.
How to build the trust of gen Z?
If you want to succeed with a younger audience, it doesn’t pay to focus solely on the product itself. Focus on:
➡️ high-quality photos and well-crafted descriptions
➡️ providing authentic reviews from other customers
➡️ creating engaging content on social media, especially Instagram and TikTok
➡️ offering a wide range of flexible delivery options
➡️ providing clear information about product availability—and if an item is out of stock, specify when it will be restocked.
A fun fact to wrap things up
Did you know that Gen Z holds the intergenerational record for online jewelry purchases? Maybe it has something to do with young people’s desire for self-expression.
